Brenda J. Akins retired after 42 years with the Los Angeles County Auditor-Controller. She brings extensive executive and administrative experience, with a strong background in business management, corporate accounting, and community-centered service. She holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a bachelor’s degree in business accounting, which provide a solid foundation in financial strategy, operations, and organizational leadership. She also served for eight years with a nonprofit organization as President of the Finance Committee, held another leadership role, and as a property tax consultant.
Brenda is a versatile professional certified as a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE) Administrator and in Resource Family Approval (RFA), through which she cares for foster children. She is also preparing to launch Helen’s In-Home Care for the elderly. Her background in human services is further strengthened by Direct Support Professional (DSP) 1 and 2 certifications, equipping her to advocate for high-quality care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and others with special needs. Whether overseeing complex business operations or serving the community as a commissioned Notary Public and certified document signer, she is committed to excellence, integrity, and meaningful service.
With deep compassion, love, and a nurturing spirit, Brenda has always been drawn to helping those in need. Her dedication to caring for individuals with disabilities grew during the nine years she cared for her mother. In 2011, her mother suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke that left her paralyzed on her left side and dependent on a ventilator, tracheostomy, feeding tube, and other intensive care. Although doctors gave her only months to live, her family brought her home, surrounded her with love, and she far surpassed that prognosis before passing away from respiratory failure in 2020. Through Touching God’s People, Brenda is committed to providing the same compassion, love, and care to you and your loved ones.
In her spare time, Brenda enjoys roller skating, tennis, reading, writing, and studying the Word of God.
